Playstation 3 wont read disc's? Looked all over internet cant find anything! Any ideas?

hi guys im repairing a ps3 for a friend that wont read discs, i have cleaned the laser with lens cleaners with a cotton wool bud but nothing ! i have looked all over the internet, youtube, yahoo answers ! And nothing, no where actually says how to fix this? please help? My friend dosent really want to spend �45 on a new laser, so you must be able to fix them in one way or another ? cheers tyler's
