Why did my friends leopard geckos die?

He told me that 1 of his leopard geckos died, than the next week he said the other one died. He fed them very good and dusted the crickets. Could it have been the tank size, cause he housed both of them in a 15 gallon tank. The bedding he used was the repti carpet or whatever its called.
