Remove nail polish stain from comforter?

I have a white tufted down comforter which, tragically, now bears a large lilac purple metallic nail polish stain. The stain has been there for a few years. Is there anyway I can remove it myself without causing further damage to the material or, perhaps, can a professional cleaners fix it?
